Damon Packard, the director behind Reflections of Evil (also shot illegal in a big theme park, Universal I think, just like that other hip drama that making the rounds at festivals nowadays)n posted a screenshot from Code Red's upcoming release of Bert I. Gordon's The Mad Bomber on Facebook. It's of course in low resolution, with the usual Facebook compressions, but still... this looks stunning compared to the crap we've seen before.
The Mad Bomber was released as The Police Connection with more violence and sleaze in certain territories, but most of the world seems to have gotten the PG version instead. Now, that's a very good movie by itself, but the added gore and sex (which is highly unusal for Bert I. Gordon) just makes it even better.
What's also highly unusal for Mr B.I.G is that he even made a gritty, cop vs bomber thriller like this. He's a businessman, he makes stuff he can get rich from, but this is very far from his usual kidde fare. He later on turned to sex-comedies and Empire of the Ants and Food of the Gods, both with huge animals, feels a bit more intensive than his earlier stuff. But like all good businessmen he looked at what the audience wanted and made his movies but with extra nastiness.
But The Mad Bomber still feels unique. It's also a pleasure to see Chuck Connors in THE performance of his life, reminding me of what Kirk Douglas later did in Mousey and maybe even Michael Douglas in Falling Down. But Chuck is always Chuck and you should buy this DVD - whenever it's out - just because of him.
Here's some of the taglines. They'll probably will sell you how good this movie is!
It Will Blow Your Mind!
THE RAPIST - The only man who can identify the bomber.
THE PSYCHO COP - He's got two jobs - find a mad bomber and find a rapist.
THE MAD BOMBER - He's blowing up the town piece by piece.
IN HANDCUFFS OR A PAPER BAG, He doesn't care how he brings them in!
He's got the town in his hand and it is ticking!

Yeah...this one used to go on swedish cable.....but I hardly remember it.
And I think I saw the PG version.....it was very bland.
